BAZAAR G · RUG GUIDES & INSPIRATION

A new rug can change the mood of a room without replacing the furniture you already love. For our 2026 styling edit, we have chosen five approaches you can explore with the Bazaar G range—from quiet texture to expressive traditional pattern.

These are our styling suggestions, rather than a ranking of Australia’s best-selling rugs. Choose the ideas that suit your room, budget and daily routine.

1. Build a calm room with warm neutrals

Ivory, cream and stone tones can connect pale walls, timber furniture and neutral upholstery. The key is variation: choose a rug that differs slightly from the sofa or flooring so each surface remains distinct.

For an easy starting palette, combine a warm neutral rug with natural timber and one darker accent, such as a charcoal lamp or framed print. In a room with cool grey tiles, compare the undertones carefully before choosing a creamy rug.

Explore plain neutral rugs and look at close-up photos as well as the overall colour.

2. Let texture do some of the decorating

A raised geometric pattern or a textured wool surface adds interest without adding several new colours. This can work well when the room already contains artwork, shelving or patterned cushions.

The Abasco Ivory rug combines dyed wool with a raised and lower surface. Its approximately 20 mm pile is worth considering for comfort, but check furniture movement and door clearance before choosing where it will go.

For a simpler room, repeat the rug’s texture with a woven cushion or a timber side table. Use our material comparison guide to choose a surface you can comfortably maintain.

3. Introduce one rich colour

A deep red, burgundy or chocolate-toned rug can give a pale room a stronger focal point. Keep larger furniture neutral and repeat the rug colour in one or two small details rather than changing every accessory.

Silken Luxe Chocolate Cherry brings depth to a pale palette; check its viscose care requirements before choosing the room.

The Silken Luxe Chocolate Cherry Rug is an example of a rich colour with a relatively quiet surface design. It is viscose and recommended for low-traffic spaces away from direct sunlight, so it suits a different use from an everyday family-room polypropylene rug.

4. Pair traditional pattern with simple furniture

You do not need a fully traditional interior to use a medallion rug. A patterned rug can sit comfortably with a plain sofa, clean-lined table and restrained accessories.

Choose one colour from the rug to echo in the room. Leave some plain surfaces around it so the pattern has space to be seen. With a detailed border, check that your furniture placement does not hide the part of the design you like most.

5. Carry the palette into the hallway

A runner can connect rooms without making every rug identical. Repeat a warm red, soft grey or ivory note from the living room, while choosing a pattern and pile that suit a narrower space.

Measure the clear walking route, keep the ends away from door swings and account for the underlay. Our hallway runner guide includes an example showing how an 80 cm runner fits within a wider passage.

Choose the idea that works beyond the photo

Before ordering, check three things: the exact dimensions, the fibre and care requirements, and how the colours sit alongside your existing furniture. Styling images are helpful inspiration; your measurements and the product specification should make the final decision.

Start with our rug size guide and sofa colour guide if you are still narrowing the options.
